Education System in India

In India Education means only cramming and getting marks . There is need to change our education system.
Our Educational Institutions  just trying to give knowledge not skills.

One of the biggest problems with the education system in India is that it focusses on cramming the textbook information and the best crammers are rewarded by the system.
Focus on skill based education
Our education system is geared towards teaching and testing knowledge at every level as opposed to teaching skills. “Give a man a fish and you feed him one day, teach him how to catch fishes and you feed him for a lifetime.”  I believe that if you teach a man a skill, you enable him for a lifetime. Knowledge is largely forgotten after the semester exam is over. Still, year after year Indian students focus on cramming information. The best crammers are rewarded by the system. This is one of the fundamental flaws of our education system.
Reward creativity, original thinking, research and innovation
Our education system rarely rewards what deserves highest academic accolades. Deviance is discouraged. Risk taking is mocked. Our testing and marking systems need to be built to recognize original contributions, in form of creativity, problem solving, valuable original research and innovation. If we could do this successfully Indian education system would have changed overnight.
Memorising is no learning; the biggest flaw in our education system is perhaps that it incentivizes memorizing above originality
Key Challenges for the Indian Education System

25% of the Indian population is illiterate.

Only 7% of the population that goes to school managed to graduate and only 15% of those who enrol manage to make it to high school and achieve a place in the higher education system.

A few reasons why education in India is given less importance in some areas are as follows:

  • 80% of schools are managed by the government. Private schools are expensive and out of reach of the poor.
  • More hands to earn remains the mentality amongst many families and therefore little kids are set out to fend for the family over going to school to garner an adequate education, in the most literal sense of the word.
  • Infrastructure facilities at schools across rural areas and in slums dispense very poor quality of education.
  • The teachers are not well qualified and therefore not well paid and therefore are not willing to work hard enough. This has been a classical Catch-22 problem that the government has been trying hard to fight against.
I am MCA student of Panjab University, Chandigarh but i am not satisfied with this education system . Because the syllabus of MCA is very old not updated. From few days i am loosing my interest in studies and i think it is one of the reason for this. Exactly i am trying to convey the message that the student does effort only to get certificate or degree but not skills. At the end i just want to say that education authorities/Institutes should try to give skills to students.
